Tim Henriques – Director NPTI Virginia
Tim Henriques has been with NPTI since its inception in 2001. He started out as a part time instructor, became a full time instructor and then became the Director which is his current full time job. He has been personal training for over 15 years, working with companies One to One Fitness and Fitness Image and Results before running his own business. He continues to train clients part time outside of NPTI.
Tim loves all things related to fitness but his primary passion is strength training. He has been competing in powerlifting for 20 years and has received several notable accomplishments in that sport. He was a Collegiate All American Powerlifter in college and went on to set many state and national records. He set the VA state record for the deadlift by lifting 700 lbs at a bodyweight of 198 lbs. He set the National Record for the strict curl in 2013. He currently coaches a powerlifting team called Team Force, which won the Federation Championships in 2011 and 2013. He has also competed in armwrestling and strongman competitions. He is lifetime drug free.
Tim enjoys writing and giving talks about fitness. He is a featured author on the popular site T-nation.com and he has given presentations at various fitness conferences and presentations. He attended Fairfax High School and then went on to James Madison University, where he earned his degree in Kinesiology along with minors in coaching and psychology. He lives with his wife, Christina, and their boys (Nathan, Ryan, and Collin) and their dog, Pongo.
Jennifer Griffin – Admissions Director
Jennifer (“Jenny”) has been with NPTI since its inception, working in all facets of the school. She has managed our schools in NYC, Wilmington, DE Turnersville, NJ and now is the Admissions Director for the schools in Philadelphia & Pittsburgh, PA, as well as here in Northern, VA. Fitness & Nutrition has always fascinated her, probably because she wasn’t very good at either of them (her words, not ours!).
She grew up being your typical neighborhood “fat kid” until her early 20’s when she had reached an all time high of 180 pounds and decided enough was enough. She walked into a boxing gym for her first ever work out and lasted 5 minutes and went home. BUT she went back the next day and 2 years later she was fighting on the amateur circuit at 135 lbs and 16% body fat. It wasn’t an easy road by any means, but one of the most satisfying journeys she has ever had. Today in addition to her duties with NPTI, she runs a small boxing gym and has just recently been intrigued by the sport of power lifting. Not bad for the neighborhood fat kid (again, her words not ours), right?!?!
Kim Limon – Instructor
After suffering from a severe eating disorder for six years, Kim began to explore the world of fitness and proper nutrition after graduating from Louisiana State University summa cum laude with a degree in psychology and sociology. With a full understanding of how trying and extremely personal the physical and mental journey toward body transformation is, Kim decided to pursue personal training as a career and enrolled at NPTI. After graduating from NPTI in 2012, she worked as lead personal trainer at Gold’s Gym before establish her own company in 2013.
Adopting a style of training grounded in the belief that mobility and proper positioning build the foundation for physical well-being, whether in or out of the gym, she studied numerous movement screening programs and is Level 2 Fitness Pro certified through the Titleist Performance Institute. Her specialty areas include nutrition, golf specific training, and mobilization.
In her free time Kim enjoys reading, listening to indie music, baking sinful indulgences that she passes off onto others, and making hand-crafted greeting cards. She loves any and all things Harry Potter.
Max Berkheimer – Instructor
Max developed a passion for fitness while playing sports in middle and high school. He grew up in the area, graduating from Westfield High School in 2005. During his time playing football at Westfield, he realized that extra work in the gym translated into positive results on the field. After graduating from James Madison University in 2009, he decided to further explore his passion for fitness. After earning his first fitness certification in 2010, Max decided he needed a more “hands on” educational program. He enrolled at NPTI, taking the 12 month weekend class. Before graduating he found the confidence he needed to start his training career. He began working at Fitness First in 2011 and by the time he graduated he had moved on to work at Washington Sports Club.
Max’s experience at NPTI was instrumental in the development of his training philosophy. The most important fact he learned from the program was that a personal trainer’s education is never complete. Max enjoys learning about all forms of fitness, but has a particular interest in the development of strength. He specializes in coaching barbell exercises and programming improvements in strength for all populations. Along with teaching at NPTI, Max is also a trainer at True Fitness and Nutrition, a fitness studio in McLean.
Max spends as much free time as possible with his wife Carly and his two cats, Cannoli & Biscotti. He also enjoys playing sports, cards, and learning other languages.
